The University of Vermont is Hiring a Watershed Forestry Coordinator

The University of Vermont is hiring a Watershed Forestry Coordinator on behalf of the Lake Champlain Forest Watershed Partnership. This Partnership formed in 2018 to accelerate the implementation of forest restoration to meet the Lake Champlain Basin’s water quality, wildlife habitat, economic, and quality of life goals. Founding partners include PUR Projet, American Forests, UVM Extension, and Lake Champlain Sea Grant.

The Partnership’s initial focus includes: 1) broadening understanding of benefits of riparian forest buffers; 2) promoting restoration of riparian forest buffers in priority subwatersheds and sustainable forest management in headwater watersheds so as to improve components of the forestry supply chain critical to keeping forest as forest; 3) working with partners and stakeholders to identify and address critical questions surrounding forested buffers and other sustainable forest practices; and 4) establishing a Community of Practice among key stakeholders and partners.

The Watershed Forestry Coordinator will oversee and provide leadership for the Partnership. This will include convening a leadership summit to address barriers to riparian forest restoration, facilitating the exchange of best practices among practitioners, and working with Partnership members to implement forest restoration incentive programs.

The position is a 100% term staff position at the University of Vermont for two years. The position will be renewable contingent upon funding availability.
